Instant Pot Moong Dal Payasam


Ingredients

1 cup moong dal

2-3 tablespoon ghee or coconut oil

1/2 cup cashews or nuts of your choice chopped 

 1/2 cup coconut cubes

2 cups water

1. 5 - 2 cup jaggery or sugar of your choice

6 cardamom pods crushed

Few strands of saffron (optional) 

2 can of coconut milk or regular milk with coconut milk powder (adjust according to the preferred consistency) 


Instructions

Switch on the instant pot in saute mode and add the ghee to it, and roast the nuts 1st then remove add the coconut cubes and fry till golden brown, remove and set aside. 

Add the moong dal to the hot ghee and roast till you see few brown grains in the dal, switch off the saute and add the water to the pot with a pinch of salt and pressure cook for 12 mins in high. 

Let the pressure release naturally. 

Once the pin falls down open the lid and add the sugar and mix well until the dal is mashed and sugar is dissolved. 


Add the milk or coconut milk which ever you are using with cardamom and saffron. 

Add the chopped nuts and coconut cube back to the pot and mix well. 
Serve warm or cold. Enjoy.
