Apple Rose Tart

With the valentines day around the corner, I was thinking of what to post. Opened the fridge and was going thru the things inside and found some shortcrust pastry and apples.
After coming to the UK i have made some beautiful apple butter, apple cakes and loads of smoothies and juices from my backyard apple tree.
But once the fall hit, there are no more apples in the tree except some leafless branches 😂. This time while doing grocery shopping, got some apples and I had the shortcrust pastry stored in the freezer.

Instantly got this in my mind but didn't have a muffin tray. Was wondering what to do and the small cups came to my rescue. They were perfectly sized and they are stainless steel too so I happily used them.

Its was so damn easy and the results are amazing. It just tasted so good and refreshing. This dish isnt just a treat to your taste buds but its a treat to the eyes and the valentines day is perfect day to make them.

Make these easy and lovely edible roses for the valentines day and enjoy it with your loved ones.
INGREDIENTS

2 - 3 apples
1 pack shortcrust pastry sheet
2 tbsp flour
2 tbsp cinnamon sugar (or)
2 tbsp fruit reserve (or)
2 tbsp sugar

2 tbsp powdered sugar for garnish

PICTORIAL METHOD (for easy understanding)

° Slice the apple with a mandoline slicer to get the precise slices. Arrange them in a plate.
° Microwave the slices in a microwave for 2 1/2 to 3 minutes. Until the slices are tender and wobbly.
° Use a room temperature pastry sheet. If not thawed beforehand let it sit in the counter for 30 - 40 mins. Cut them into finger-length strips.
° Flour the counter before using a rolling pin roll the pastry strip lengthwise.
° Spread the fruit reserve on to the stretched pastry in the middle. Here I used my apple butter.
° If you want to use cinnamon sugar you may use it. I used apple butter for 2 and plain sugar for 3 as we don't like cinnamon much. Then arrange the tender apple slices to one side of the sheet. Don't leave a gap in between the slices.
° Now fold the other end over the apple slices and give it a gentle press.
° Starting from one end of the sheet roll it loosely. Don't do tight roll, either the pastry will break or the centre will not get cooked if rolled tight. Stick the end with some water to the pastry.
° Place the rolled roses in a small cups as I did or place them in a muffin tin. Either will work.
° Bake in a preheated oven for 40 - 45 mins at 190°C. If you find the apples are getting burnt, around 35 mins place a sheet of foil on top of the tray and move the tray to the lower oven rack.
° Remove from the tray and sprinkle with some powdered sugar and cinnamon.
° Can be enjoyed right away, that's when they are crispy and good. Can be stored in an airtight container for 3 days in the fridge.
