1 Ingredient Dulce De Leche

Dulce de leche originated from Latin America and the traditional process is a long and time consuming one. In other words, this is also known as the candy of milk or milk jam as we call it 😂.
The modern days have made the long recipe into a short one and this can be made with one single ingredient. According to me, this is an effortless recipe, but the end result is just amazing. 

The hard part of this recipe is the waiting (cooling) time. Once the can is opened you will be tempted to take a spoonful straight from the jar.

The dulce de leche can be used to top your cakes, pies or you can use this to make ice cream with the dulce de leche flavour. Everything comes out amazing.
Today I will be making this using my instant pot but you can use an electric rice cooker or a stovetop pressure cooker too. Either way, the final product will be the same. 

INGREDIENTS 

1 can of condensed milk 
Loads of water to submerge the can

METHOD 

Instant Pot Method

Place the trivet into the instant pot and now place a steamer basket on top of the trivet. This is to avoid the can coming in contact with the bottom or sides of the instant pot.

After placing the trivet and steamer basket, place the unopened can of condensed milk on top of the steamer basket. Try moving the can around to check if there is a possibility of it touching the instant pot. 

Now add loads of water until the water level reaches the max line in your instant pot. By now the can should be underwater.
Cover the lid and use the pressure cook mode to pressure cook on high for 15 minutes(increase the timing to 20 minutes if you want a thicker dulce de leche) 

Let the timing finish in the instant pot and let the pressure release naturally. 

Open the instant pot lid once the pressure pin drops. Use a tong to carefully remove the can from the water. Be very careful while handling the can as it will be extremely hot. 

Now comes the hard part 😤 (waiting to cool down) you will be tempted to open it immediately but trust me you don't want that mess to happen. As the liquid is too hot it will be very hard to handle it. 

Use a tong and place the can into the refrigerator for at least 6 hours before you open it. 

After 6 hours remove it and open the can, give it a good mix. 

Now you can enjoy your dulce de leche as you wish.

Stovetop pressure cooker

Place a stand or trivet (this is important to avoid the can coming in contact with the bottom or sides of the pressure cooker) on the bottom of your pressure cooker and place the condensed milk can on top of the trivet and add enough water to cover the can.

Now close the lid and pressure cook on high for 30 - 45 minutes (depending on how thick you want).

Let the pressure release naturally then open the lid. Use a tong to carefully remove the can from the water. Be very careful while handling the can as it will be extremely hot. 

Now comes the hard part 😤 (waiting to cool down) you will be tempted to open it immediately but trust me you don't want that mess to happen. As the liquid is too hot it will be very hard to handle it. 

Use a tong and place the can into the refrigerator for at least 6 hours before you open it. 

After 6 hours remove it and open the can, give it a good mix. 

Now you can enjoy your dulce de leche as you wish.

Electric Rice Cooker

Place a stand or trivet on the bottom of an electric rice cooker. Place your condensed milk can on top of the trivet and add water until the can is completely submerged. 

Cover and switch on the rice cooker on rice cooking mode. 

Set a timer for 1.30 - 2 hours depending on how thick you prefer your dulce de leche to be. 

The rice cooking mode will be on until there is water in the pot. Let it boil and do its job. 

After the timer goes off open the lid. Use a tong to carefully remove the can from the water. Be very careful while handling the can as it will be extremely hot. 

Now comes the hard part 😤 (waiting to cool down) you will be tempted to open it immediately but trust me you don't want that mess to happen. As the liquid is too hot it will be very hard to handle it.
