Dal Dosa |Kaara Dosai |Paruppu Dosai

Dal Dosa is a healthy and flavourfull dosa. This dosa is called in different names according to the region. There is usually an addition of rice along with the dals to make this dosa.
When i shared the recipe to my mom she was skeptical about it as she is always used to make it with the rice addition. To my surprise the dosa turned out an amazing one with so much of flavour and taste.

The fennel seeds and the curry leaves contribute so much to the flavour of the dosa. The asafoetida is a must addition due to the amount of dals we add to this recipe.

INGREDIENTS

SOAK
½ cup green gram dal
½ cup moong dal
½ cup urad dal
½ cup chana dal
½ cup toor dal
5 dry red chilli

GRIND
1 handful curry leaves
1 inch ginger
4 green chilli
½ tsp asafoetida
1 tbsp fennel seeds
Salt to taste

TEMPER
1 tbsp oil
½ tbsp mustard seeds
1 large onion chopped

METHOD

Wash and soak all the ingredients under the SOAK for 2 hours or overnight.
Add the soaked ingredients into a blender along with the GRIND ingredients and without adding much of water grind it into a fine and thick batter. Keep it aside.

In a pan add the 1 tbsp oil and once hot add the mustard seeds and after they splutter add thr chopped onions and saute till the onions are soft and translucent. Let it cool completely.

Once cooled add the onions to the batter and add enough salt to taste. Mix it well until everything is combined.

Heat a dosa tawa and smear some oil. Once the pan is hot add ½ cup of the thick battet and spread it into a round dosa. Do not spread it thin like a regular dosa. This dosa is supposed to be a tad bit on the thicker side.

Add some oil on the sides of the dosa. Once the bottom side is slightly cooked and crispy, flip it to the other side andlet it cook for a minute.

Thats it the healthy dal dosa is ready to be served.

Serve ot hot with chutney and some grated jaggery. Enjoy!!!
