Creamy Rajma Gravy |Instant Pot Rajma |Easy Rajma Recipe

Rajma Masala is a popular side dish that is served across North India, most importantly in Punjabi dhabas with flat breads like rotis, phulkas and the famous rajma chawal.
To make this side dish a party worthy food loaded with richness, use butter to cook instead of oil. Also adding ½ cup of cream and a dollop of butter to top the dish finally.

This Rajma Masala recipe that I’m sharing here is made with freshly ground paste and can be made totally vegan if you used only oil for cooking and avoid the cream at end.

INGREDIENTS

2 cups rajma, soaked for 6 hours
2 cups water

Grind to paste
1 onion
4 tomatoes
5 cloves garlic
2 inch ginger
3 green chilli

Tempering
2 tbsp oil
1 tbsp cumin seeds
1 inch cinnamon
2 cardamom
2 bay leaves

Spices
1 tbsp chilli powder
1 tbsp coriander powder
1 tbsp garam masala
1 tsp pepper powder
1 tsp turmeric powder
Salt to taste

½ cup cream (optional)

METHOD

Prep
Soak the rajma for 6 hours or overnight.

Add the Grind to paste ingredients into a blender and grind it to a fine paste without adding water.

Switch on the instant pot in saute mode or stovetop pressure cooker in medium heat and add the oil and one hot add in the Tempering ingredients to the pot. After the cumin splutters add the ground paste to the pot and start mixing for couple of minutes.

Be careful as the mixture tends to splutter a lot.

Cove with a lid and let it cook on its own for 5 to 7 minutes.

Open the lid and add in the Spices  along with salt to taste and saute this mixture for couple more minutes or until the mixture comes to a thick paste consistency.

Add in the soaked and drained rajma to the pot and give it a nice mix until the masala and rajma is combined well.

Add in the water to the pot and check for salt and adjust.

Cover the lid and pressure cook for 30 mins on high pressure in the instant pot and if using stove top pressure cooker cook it on high heat for 5 to 6 whistles according to your pressure cooker.

Let the pressure release naturally after the cooking time. Once the pressure pin drops in the instant pot open the lid and give it a nice mix.

At this stage the rajma is ready to be served but if you wish to make it more creamy and taste like restaurant style then add in the cream and give it a mix.

Serve it hot with rice or roti as per your wish.

Enjoy!!!
