One Pot Dal Spinach |Instant Pot Dal Spinach |Dal Palak

One Pot Spinach Dal- a simple yellow dal made with warming spices, split peas and spinach. This recipe is an easy fix for a busy days and it can be made in stovetop pressure cooker or instant pot. 
A great source of vitamin A, C, iron and plant protein! 
Dal Spinach is an easy and nutritious recipe of spinach with toor dal.
It is also one of the popular Indian dal recipes as it combines the goodness of the toor dal (also known as split pigeon peas) as well as spinach. By avoiding the addition of butter or ghee to this recipe makes it vegan. 

INGREDIENTS

Tempering 
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds 

1 onion
4-5 green chilli
5 cloves garlic 
1 inch ginger
3 tomatoes
Few curry leaves

1 cup toor dal
1 tsp fenugreek seeds 
3 cups water

Spices 
1 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp coriander powder 
1 tsp garam masala
1 tsp turmeric powder
Salt to taste 

1 bunch spinach

METHOD

Switch on the heat of you stovetop pressure cooker or saute mode on instant pot, add the butter and oil.

Once hot add in the Tempering ingredients and let it splutter.

Add in the chopped onions and saute it until its translucent.

Next add in the chopped ginger, garlic and chilli, saute till the raw smell leaves.

Add in the chopped tomatoes and saute until slightly soft.

Now add the Spices to the pan and give it a nice mix so that the spices dont burn.

Add the water to the pot along with the toor dal and fenugreek seeds.

Switch off the saute mode in instant pot and cover the pressure cooker lid.

Let it pressure cook for 10 minutes on high pressure in instant pot or 4-5 whistles in stovetop pressure cooker.

Once the cooking is done quick release the preasure by venting in instant pot or lifiting the weight with a spoon in stovetop pressure cooker.

After the pressure is completely released, open the lid and give it a nice mix.

Add the spinach leaves on top and without mixing again cover the lid and let it pressure cook on high pressure for 2 minutes in instant pot and for 1 whistle in stovetop pressure cooker.

Let the pressure release naturally.

Open the lid and give it a nice mix.

Serve it hot with some steamed rice or roti and enjoy!!!
