Tea times are the time when we search for something crunchy to munch... Murukku / Chakili is one of the famous south indian snack item. This is the first time i am trying my hands on this south speciality...
When i shared the pictures of these with my friends... one of them said it was a tea time torture... its you Juby :)
My mom and dad were so surprised about the outcome as they didn't expect such a perfect looking murukku from a first timer like me.... But belive me it is easy.
If i am able to make it so well then for sure you too can...
Give it a try for sure...
Murukku / Chakkili
Ingredients
2 cups rice flour
1/2 cup Urad dal (dry roasted and powdered)
Cumin 2 tbsp
Asafotedia 1/2 tsp
Butter 2 tbsp
Salt to taste
Oil for deep frying
Method
Dry roast the urad dal and powder it in a blender.
Mix all the ingredients except the oil and make a smooth dough.
Heat the oil for deep frying.
Stuff the dough into the Murukku maker (i used Anjali Idiyappam Maker which i got in india) and start piping the Murukku on a plastic sheet or on a flat laddle. Make 4 - 5 at a time and add them to the hot oil slowly without breaking the shape.
Deep fry till they turn golden brown and crispy and no more bubbles seen. Drain them and keep on a plate. Cool completely before storing in an airtight container.
Stays crunchy for a long time... Tastes great at anytime... Specially with tea or coffee...
